Master Yoda completed it is.

This project goes back a few years ago when I did a little base for my 15mm  master Yoda. Today after many days sitting on a dark box its finally painted and finished.

It was very enjoyable to paint this miniature and since its a small scale its quite challenging to capture all the details.

Ancient statues (Terrain on a budget)

Hi, time for another update. This time I carved some pieces for my jungle terrain board. Since Im exploring a bit ancient temples and designs I went to look for statues and primitive constructions. There are all kinds of styles depending on which civilization created it.
After I had the ideas it was time to flesh them out, I went again to my cheap art store and got some Das clay for about £4 and started this project.

After a a couple days carving I got these done.

They are considerably bigger than the other ancient columns I did a few weeks ago.

These will be a better block of line of sight.

I also got a big base from Fenris games.

And finally the tools that I use to carve the Das clay, simple stuff really.

Thats it, got a few more things for my terrain and most importantly Im not spending a fortune .

Nightfolk unboxing and review

Time to crack open some goodies that I have picked at Salute. Nightfolk miniatures is a new range so I take this opportunity to review them and do some scale comparisons to clarify the scale/proportions of these fantastic minis.

Unboxing

The blisters at salute were sold in 3 main formats, individual miniature blisters, 3 minis per blister and 5 minis per blister. I got the 3minis blisters.

Each blister comes with 3 metal miniatures and 3x 25mm circular plastic bases.

The metal cast is very sharp with minimal or almost non existent mould lines. Since these are one single casts with no multipart bits its a case of opening the blister, clean the metal and paint them. Simple & easy!

Miniatures come in different sizes depending on the race and the sculpted poses are very clever making a good use of the one piece cast. Some are quite chunky while others more slender. Here is a group shot.

The style is very Labyrinth (movie) inspired so this range has a very strong fantasy flavor. There is also a interesting blend of oldschool and modern features, I mean the miniatures are one piece metal cast like in the good old days but the casting and detailing is par with the best in the modern days.

Conclusion

Sometimes I think companies lose the plot by offering way to many fiddly bits or flooding miniatures with skulls and detail for the sake of detail, bad resin casts or even just plain boring sculpts.

Nightfolk keeps it simple and does it brilliantly, these are the type of miniatures that will provide hours of fun for the painter and gamer. Well packed in blisters, single piece metal casting and a very original theme. Nice! I mean if you are a painter these will be a joy to paint since they are very original with bags of character and if you are a gamer there is nothing more sturdy than a single piece metal cast on a gaming table.

The only problem with this range is that I need to get them all and there are already plenty of more minis on their online store http://ntseshop.co.uk/ so my wallet will cry a bit :D

League of Legends PORO

Hello folks.

Past weekend I had an extra holiday on monday so this was the perfect opportunity to flesh out another sculpt. I work for a big company with lots of people and one of the things I enjoy doing is that every birthday of any of my colleagues I draw them a doodle on their cards, its fun and a good way to make work a bit less stressful. This time around it was the Birthday of a good friend who is totally crazy about a videogame called League of Legends. He does talk allot about this game and one of his favorite creatures there is a chibi cute thing called PORO. Its like a strange anime snow yak cub that has a huge tongue. He also grows considerably each cookie he has in game. Cool stuff!

So yeah! I had 3 days to come up with more than a doodle for his Bday so I decided to sculpt and paint this Poro. It was going to be very hard to pull of this in such short time frame since sculpting does take time and curing alone is around 4 hours between stages.

Saturday and Sunday I managed to sculpt the little fella in greenstuff and even had the time to do a base in Milliput.

On monday I painted it, so I managed to get this project concluded on time.

Job done and its also a subject I do not usually sculpt so quite happy to do something a bit different.

My friend was happy so all was just perfect.
