Color guides for my Ground Zero Games UNSC

After painting a couple APC's for my Rangers it was now the time to figure out a nice color scheme for all my miniatures.
I wanted to have fun with a vivid color choice but didn't want to push it to far because I still want a bit of realism on my little SciFi troops.
Since I never really painted 15mm before I followed the advices of some more experienced painters... and the first tip was always:

- 15mm should have high contrasts to stand out!

With that in mind I choose some saturated brownish and greenish tones for my minis...
I also tried something that people always advised not to do in 15mm minis and that was battle damaged armor... Well I tried it out and it was not that bad, It kind of looks okish for gaming figures and I will paint all my Rangers for my Caravela Fleet with these colors.

Ground Zero Games Miniatures are SUPERB! I mean these are soooo detailed that they rival some of the 28mm stuff I have and they are so sharp that they almost paint themselves alone.

Nice sculpts, sharp casting, lots of details & very fast to paint... 15mm is simply great.

    1. Great color scheme, and it should look very effective on the table. Six colors for the helmet though? That is intense! (and very effective)

Are you basing on Euro pennies? As I recall, Canadian, Euro, British, and US pennies are all quite close in size.

    2. Thank you... I probably exaggerated a bit on the number of colors since I'm not used to 15mm painting and this was my first attempt, I will maybe tone down a bit on future paintings.

At first I was searching for bases for my 15mm and I almost got some Oldcrow inserts or even some generic plastic 20mm ones... but both looked to big and overwhelming for 15mm miniatures so I based them in 1 Euro cent, its about 16mm and has the perfect weight.

    3. Pennies do seem like the perfect base for these figures.

So what is your next step? Paint the rest of the platoon? Go to gzg.com and buy a horde more figures? I would love to see what you would do with the NAC figures...

    4. They look great! The green visors especially are completely convincing - at least convincing me these look like 28 mm figures, if not lifelike ;) I may have to check out GZG's 15 mm stuff, as I've never been dissatisfied with any product from them in the past.

Try putting these guys in with some good-quality gaming terrain and a backdrop, and take some tilt-shift photos... they'll look incredible!

    5. @Lasgunpacker My plan is finish up the 1st rangers platoon and after that I either paint the 2nd platoon or get some alien, monsters figures so I can start testing some solo gaming.
I'm still not sure what minis to get for the alien races and I'm very tempted to sculpt some of my own races from scratch, maybe that would be something to develop now.

@ Allison M. Thank you. One thing that is bugging me a bit is what table I will use for my backdrop, I don't want to waste much money and I'm very limited to space since I'm going to travel a lot so I'm not sure what kind of table I will develop for this project... I heard Zuzzy battlemats are a good option but they take a eternity to get here and zuzzy folks don't answer mails so I don't want to have the hassle to track that.
I can make some terrain and paint the minis but the table I'm not sure what to do yet. Too many limitations to consider.

    6. Awesome paintjobs, great to see you're enjoying getting into the 15mm scale.

    7. For terrain, you might want to consider felt. You can get it pretty cheaply, and then paint it to give a fairly good look, perfect for traveling. I expect you could get a square meter of it pretty easily.

    8. Glad you joined in Spacejacker, your work and 15mm blog is truly inspiring.

Thanks for the tip Lasgunpacker I will check it out, I don't need a big table I think a 24x24 inch or 61X61cm would be enough for my 15mm skirmishes...
