1st Rangers platoon is finished UNSC

Finally I took some pictures of my painted and finished Rangers for my Caravela fleet.
You can find a painting tutorial on this blog in the previous month.

Painting these was a breeze of fresh hair because they are very detailed miniatures and since they are so small I did not spend as much time as I usual did with bigger scales.
Ground Zero games UNSC are some of the most enjoyable miniatures I had the pleasure to paint and I'm happy with the color choices for these. I will paint another squad for the second APC that I have here and I will buy a lot more GZG miniatures for my collection, but thats all in a near future but for now here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

And the platoon with his APC from Old Crow miniatures.

I hope you liked them.

Chewk from Khurasan Miniatures

I just love most of the Khurasan range of minis but when I saw the Chewk I just knew that they would be a part of my 15mm adventures.
The concept is just crazy funny and they have a fresh feeling about them mixed with all the Star Wars old school coolness... To make things even better they are very tiny! So tiny that you will have to get loads of them to counter the other 15mm factions.

This is what I got, but I will get more for sure since they are irresistible.

a) A blister with 26 little chewks tribesmen with 12 diferent posed rifleman and 2 diferent chewk leaders (thats lots of diferent poses in one blister)

b) A blister with a chewkannon with loader, leader, beast of burden and lots of choices ( I will make a very freaky conversion with this packed blister

You can get lots of more goodies at Khurasan Miniatures at http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/

The details on these little guys are incredible since they are around the 10mm size!

I'm still not sure how I will paint them and I will also have to create some differences between the 2 squads of riflemen but thats something for another post in the future.
I will get busy with them now and paint some for my 15mm incursions, I'm extremely happy with these miniatures. Great job from Khurasan.

First Harook sculpt is finished!

Well I just finished sculpting the first Harook mini for Mad Robot Miniatures.
The idea was to sculpt this bird like Scifi creature for 15mm warfare and that it should be some mm taller than a regular 15mm man.

Sculpting in 15mm has different limitations than sculpting in 28mm, for one proportions get to be a bit more cartoony and you should avoid isolated and very thin parts because of casting. So the thin and sharp things like feathers or spikes are not as prominent and they would be in 28mm... Nevertheless I'm quite OK with the  amount of small details I managed to add to this tiny mini without making it over the top.

I think this is faithful to the creature concept art and also enjoyable enough for the painter to have little fun with 15mm's, as such I'm happy with the compromises that had to be made to the design in order to convert it to 15mm.
With the concept cleared and sculpted now I can concentrate on sculpting 9 more poses... wish me luck.

New Scorpions for Otherworld Miniatures

Just finished sculpting some new miniatures for Otherworld Miniatures and this time I had the goal to sculpt 3 scorpions.

So I mixed my greenstuff and started making some giant scorpions, not to exotic or strange but just generic scorpions to fill up your Dungeons Crawlers or your RPG's or even just use them in generic fantasy games of your preference.

For those that don't know Otherworld miniatures I leave you the link:
http://www.otherworld.me.uk/

They are specialized on 28mm miniatures for the role-player with lots of really cool dungeon monsters and I had the pleasure to make some of them in the past ( I will post them here one day).
Good stuff in there for all to check out.
I guess that scale wise these scorpions that I just did will fit 30mm bases and as such they are good for 28mm as giant scorpions but they can also fit 15mm as some Clash of the titans huge like scorpions.

These little buggers had lots of tiny legs so it was not a fast sculpting commission, I believe the client will add some spikes here and there in the future so these may look a slightly bit different from what you find later in store, but without further delay here are some pictures of the Scorpions that I sculpted:

Los 3 amigos :)

Here's a scale picture with one of the scorpions based on a 30mm black base, this way you guys can figure out the scale of these little bugs.

Another thing that I like to do on all my miniatures is that even if no one is going to notice it I always sculpt the bottom part of my minis, some sculptors just leave that flat because, lets face it, no one will see it after based... But for me it makes sense to sculpt everything because this way people who buy this mini will have no problems converting these to awkward poses if they wish to.  I know, I know you can just call me bug freak now XD

The design of the scorpions was created to be simple enough for casting so its a 3 part model... also Richard (owner of Otherworld miniatures) suggested me the idea of making the junctions like Ball/socket so that people could interchange the bits... I only managed to do that kind of junction on the tails, so the modelers and converters among us will be happy to know that each tail can be used in different scorpions and that they can all be glued in tons of different poses...
The tail is one of the most prominent features on the scorpion so a little change on the pose here and there  will make a big difference on the final model appearance.

I hope you enjoy these Scorpions, for me it was a blast to sculpt some more bugs for Otherworld Miniatures... Happy Dungeon Crawling adventures!

Wyrd miniatures fortunate findings

I have been collecting all kind of miniatures for a long time, so long that I can honestly say that I don't remember every single miniature that I have purchased in the past.
As such sometimes when I dive into the ocean of blister and sprues that I have stored around here, I find something that I have never seen before... yes, I know it sounds silly but the truth is when you reach a certain critical mass of accumulated stuff your brain melts down.

The good news are that when I find, under a rock, a miniature that my brain cells forgot about is like going shopping all over again, but this time for free and in your personal hobby bunker XD

So there I was digging into a mass of Infinity blisters looking for some scifi bitz and shazam! I find 3 little blisters of Malifaux game from Wyrd miniatures and to my surprise they are perfect for 15mm!!! Thats a very odd coincidence and since I don't believe in coincidences I guess its the cryptic ways of the miniature gods pointing me the 15mm path.

So I have 3 blisters and each one is packed with 3 little miniatures, I think Im going to use them like a new race of machines things on my scifi's and 9 minis should be a good starting point...

The blister is called Arachnid Swarms Steampunk Constructs and I leave you some comparison scale shots:

I only assembled one so far but by bending the legs you have hundreds of different poses to explore and at less than 1mm tall it fits just perfectly into 15mm scifi wars... Cute little machine in 28mm just got turned into a big bad ass in 15mm... Now I need to find a cool background and a name for these machines.

Mad Robot Miniatures starts a new range of minis

Past month Steve Stodden from Mad Robot Miniatures contacted me asking if I was interested in joining in his new adventure in creating a new line of miniatures for the Sci Fi fans. His goal was to start with a new alien specie and go from there... how could I resist that?

So a few mails later and I'm very happy that Steve invited me to sculpt a bit for him, he even provided a superb concept art of the creature he wanted me to flesh out.
So for starters he wants a squad of 10 miniatures all in different unique poses based on his concept:

The Warbirds Concept

The scale for these miniatures will be around the 17mm, a bit taller than a normal 15mm human. I really like this concept! I'm looking forward to greenstuff his concept, hopefully he will enjoy them and I'm crossing fingers that the 15mm Community also appreciates this new line of alien creatures and embraces them into their personal Sci Fi Collections.

Thanks Steve and lets us join efforts in this new 15mm adventure, may our battleships reach a good destination. Let the greenstuffing begin.
